I bought this pillow because I needed to drive across the country and it worked really well. I drove for more than 12 hours a day without any lower back pain. The only thing I did notice was some minor pain in my upper back from sitting up so straight. I don't think that was specific to this pillow, though. It's probably something that happens with many lower back support pillows because your upper back can't really rest against the seat. Or maybe, my back was tired because I'm usually sitting with bad posture and this is the first time I sat how I am suppose to for long periods of time. Either way, I would still recommend this pillow.
